Nowadays, a PAN card is required for almost every important task. From government schemes to joining a company, a PAN card is asked for everywhere. If the PAN card has a damaged or old photo, you will not be able to use it as proof. Today, we will learn how to change a damaged or old photo on a PAN card (PAN Card Photo Change Process) and what the procedure is.

Step 1: First, visit www.protean-tinpan.com

Step 2: Now, select the PAN option.

Step 3: After that, click on Change/Correction in PAN Data.

Step 4: Enter the required details and the captcha code, tick the checkbox, and then submit to proceed.

Step 5: You may then be asked for additional information such as your mobile number, etc.

Step 6: After this, upload a new passport-size photograph. Once all the details are filled in, click on Submit.

Step 7: Finally, pay the required fee.

What does a PAN number mean?

  • The first three characters of the PAN number are English letters. These can range from AAA to ZZZ.
  • The fourth character indicates the tax category of the cardholder. For example, if the cardholder is an individual, it is represented by the letter P. A company is represented by the letter C.
  • The fifth character is the first letter of your surname. For instance, if the surname is Sharma, the fifth character will be S. The remaining characters are decided by the Income Tax Department.

How many categories of PAN cards are there?

PAN cards are different for companies, individuals, and foreign nationals. If an Indian citizen wants to apply for a PAN card, they must fill out Form 49A. On the other hand, if a foreign national wants to apply for a PAN card, they need to fill out Form 49AA.

A PAN card is used while filing an ITR, applying for any scheme, opening a bank account, and for many other purposes. Apart from this, if you are availing financial benefits from any government scheme, you also need a PAN card.

Even if you are receiving a subsidy from the government, the PAN card is still required.
